I had started going to the gym last September, but I was wasting my time with improper form, terrible nutrition and inconsistent training schedules. After going to Herc's and speaking to some of the guys I decided to try a different approach. I tapered down my carbs (I would highly recommend gradually tapering down by about 15-20% each week. try to avoid extremes if you can) and within a couple weeks I had dropped about 15lbs…keep in mind there is a lot of water loss in this period. I was consuming complex carbs, increased my protein intake and started eating more healthy fats.
I learned a lot from following IFBB pro Ben Pakulski and WBFF pro Vince Del Monte. From there I experimented to find out what worked for me. I can tell anyone exactly what I did but realistically it will not be the same for you, everyone is different and you need to try things out and see how your body reacts (no one likes to hear that but it’s the only way to get results). Educating about nutrition and proper supplementation was probably the most important thing that attributed to my transformation in terms of fat loss. If you are dieting and working out blindly, I hate to bear the bad news but you are setting yourself up for failure. By September this year I was 180lbs (70lbs since last August) and I am currently working on gaining lean mass and am at 177lbs. That is 58lbs since January and 73lbs since last August.
Supplementation played, and continues to play a huge part in my training success. Absolute staples for me are a good protein isolate (Isoflex, Dymatize Elite, ON 100% gold standard), glutamine, a solid high dose multi-vitamin (I prefer Vita-Stack or Orange Triad) and high quality fish oils.
Supplements that I have added that have made a huge difference in my recent training to put on size are pre-workout (Allmax MusclePrime Core Factor being my absolute favourite), creatine monohydrate, quality BCAA’s (Allmax Aminocore) and recently I have added Vitargo.
When dropping all the weight I also introduced a thermogenic fat burner. I would highly recommend introducing a thermogenic after about a month of dieting to accelerate your results.
Pictures: the first is my jolly beer drinking self, the second is a current picture, and the third is myself with WBFF pro Vince Del Monte. I was fortunate enough to become a part of Ben and Vinces new program Hypertrophy M.A.X. as part of the filming (I was demonstrated the workouts on film for the members of the program).
